Chrome vinyl wrap is the most reflective film we make. A thin metal layer under the surface turns each panel into a mirror, so the car picks up the sky, the street and everything around it. Our range covers mirror chrome in gold, red, blue, pink and black, neo chrome that shifts color over a mirror base, cast chrome with a softer satin reflection, and a matte chrome with the glare taken out. Chrome is an accent film. Use it on roofs, hoods, mirrors, trim, stripes and badges, and peel it off when you want your original paint back.
Chrome Types Compared
All of these films carry a metal layer. How that layer is finished, and what sits on top of it, is what makes each type look and behave differently on a car.
| Chrome type | What you see | How it behaves on a car | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
Mirror ChromeCHM-HD
|
A true mirror in the color you choose. It reflects its surroundings like polished metal, from candy red to yellow gold to jet black. | Solid colors are non-directional. It has very little stretch, and heat or crumpling marks the metal layer for good. Use it for partial wraps and accents. | Yellow Gold (CHM02-HD) Cherry Red (CHM04-HD) Jet Black (CHM10-HD) Solar Gold (CHM21-HD) |
Neo ChromeMCH
|
Color that moves over a mirror base. MCH01 runs from deep violet in the shade to cyan and aquamarine in direct sun. | It is directional and stretches only a few percent. Install it dry and in pieces, cut every panel the same way, and order the whole job from one production LOT. | Purple Blue Aquamarine (MCH01) Frozen Berry (MCH08) Ammolite Gem (MCH02N) |
Cast ChromeCSC, CMC
|
Seven satin cast chrome colors with a softer reflection, plus Super Silver (CMC01) in full mirror. | Cast film conforms better and shrinks less than our other chrome, under 0.10%. It is still meant for partial wraps, and it is sold in 52 ft rolls. | Reflective Cast Chrome (CSC/CMC) |
Matte ChromeSCH
|
A deep metal base under a low-sheen surface, measured at 14.5 gloss units at 60°. The color keeps its depth without mirror glare. | It handles closer to our standard color films. It is directional, post-heats to 100 °C (212 °F) and comes off with heat. | Passion Red (SCH01) |
Chrome vs Color Shift vs Gloss Vinyl Wrap
Chrome is the right choice when you want the most reflection on part of the car. For a full color change with movement, color shift is easier to live with. For a full wrap that looks like paint, choose gloss.
| Feature | Chrome | Color Shift | Gloss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Finish | True mirror that reflects its surroundings | Gloss with color that changes by angle | Wet shine, like factory paint |
| Full car wrap | Best on panels and accents | Yes, with a professional installer | Yes, the easiest to install |
| Stretch | Very little | Moderate, stretching changes the color | Good |
| Removal | Cold, within 1 year | With heat, within its rated life | With heat, within its rated life |
| Washing and care | Most care, hand wash only | Like gloss, swirls show | Easiest |

Chrome Film Specs
| Film | Mirror and Neo Chrome are hybrid films with a silver metal layer. Cast Chrome (CSC/CMC) is cast vinyl. Matte Chrome (SCH01) is a 190 series hybrid film. |
| Thickness | 0.12-0.14 mm (4.7-5.5 mil). Mirror Chrome (CHM-HD) is 0.19 mm (7.5 mil). |
| Adhesive | Henkel solvent acrylic with air-release channels. It reaches full bond in 24-48 hours. |
| Liner and cap | Clear PET air-release liner on most chrome, with a protective cap on the face. Remove the cap before you install. |
| Stretch | Very limited. Overstretching, crumpling or too much heat distorts the metal layer, and it cannot be restored. |
| Conformability | Smooth and moderately curved surfaces. Use inlays and seams for deep recesses. |
| Application temperature | 17-23 °C (63-73 °F). Neo Chrome goes on dry. |
| Heat | Use a steam vacuum or IR heater for controlled heat. Matte Chrome (SCH01) post-heats to 100 °C (212 °F). |
| Warranty and removal | 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Remove within 1 year, cold, pulling the film off quickly at a low angle. Matte Chrome comes off with heat. |
| Rolls | Mirror and Matte Chrome are 5 ft (1.52 m) wide in 16, 33, 49 and 59 ft (5, 10, 15 and 18 m) lengths. Neo Chrome is 4.5 ft (1.37 m) wide. Cast Chrome comes in 52 ft (16 m) rolls. |
| Shelf life | 1 year for Mirror Chrome, 2 years for Neo, Cast and Matte Chrome, at 10-20 °C (50-68 °F) and 50% humidity |
Installing and Caring for Chrome Vinyl
Chrome is the hardest film to install, and it is not one to learn on. It barely stretches, it does not self-heal, and the mirror layer keeps every mark you make. Plan the job in pieces. Use inlays cut with knifeless tape on bumpers and deep recesses instead of pulling the film into them, and work with a soft squeegee and a fresh, wet buffer. Control heat with a steam vacuum or IR heater, because too much heat hazes the mirror. For a bigger job, find an installer near you who has worked with chrome before.
Chrome needs the most care of any finish. Wait 48 hours before the first wash, then hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and a soft microfiber mitt, and pat it dry with microfiber. Skip automatic washes, brushes and pressure washers, and never use wax, polish or compound, because they scratch the mirror layer. Park under cover when you can, and plan to take the film off within a year.

Chrome Vinyl Wrap FAQ
Can I wrap a whole car in chrome?
We do not recommend it. Chrome has very little stretch, so deep bumpers and compound curves need many seams, and film forced into a recess can pull back out a few days later. Chrome looks its best on roofs, hoods, mirrors, trim, stripes and badges. For a full car with movement in the color, look at color shift vinyl.
How much does chrome vinyl cost?
Cut lengths of 16 ft (5 m) start at $299 for Mirror Chrome, $259 for Neo Chrome and $209 for Matte Chrome. Cast Chrome is sold as a 5 x 52 ft roll for $1,365. Size the job with our material calculator, add extra for seams and inlays, and order everything from one production LOT.
How long does a chrome wrap last?
Plan on about a year. Our chrome carries a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, and it should come off within a year of installation. Left on longer, the adhesive builds and can leave residue or marks in the paint. Sun and heat age chrome fastest, so park under cover when you can.
Is a chrome wrap legal?
It depends on where you drive. Some places, including Germany and Queensland in Australia, restrict finishes that can dazzle other drivers, and in the US the rules vary by state. A chrome roof or mirror caps draw far less attention than a full mirror body. Check your local rules before a large chrome job, and update your registration and insurer if a color change has to be declared.
Why does chrome get lines or a hazy patch?
Stretch and heat. The mirror is a thin metal layer, so pulling it too far or heating it too hot breaks it up into lines or a milky haze. That cannot be repaired, and it is not covered by the warranty. Use inlays for deep areas instead of stretching into them, and control heat with a steam vacuum or IR heater.
Will the chrome look like the photos?
Close, but not exactly. Chrome reflects whatever is around it, so it looks different on every street, and in flat daylight it can read softer than studio photos. Order a sample and hold it against the car outside before you buy a roll.
Can I install chrome vinyl myself?
Only if you have wrapped before. Chrome does not forgive lifting and re-laying the way gloss does, and every crease or overstretched corner stays visible. Practice on a mirror cap or a small trim piece first. For a hood, roof or anything larger, we strongly recommend an installer with chrome experience. Find a wrap shop near you.
How do I wash a chrome wrap?
By hand only, with a pH-neutral shampoo and a soft microfiber mitt. Rinse the grit off first, wash gently and pat dry with a clean microfiber towel. Do not use automatic washes, brushes, pressure washers, wax, polish or solvents. Each of them can scratch or cloud the mirror.
How do I remove a chrome wrap?
Cold, without heat, within a year of installation. Peel the film back quickly at a low angle. Heat softens the adhesive and leaves more of it on the paint. Matte Chrome (SCH01) is the exception and comes off with heat. Repainted or repaired panels can lift with the film.
I want a chrome look without the mirror glare. What are my options?
There are three. Matte Chrome Passion Red (SCH01) keeps the metal depth with a low sheen. The satin colors in our Cast Chrome range give a softer reflection. And the satin chrome films in our satin vinyl collection, like Crimson Red (VCH401-S), put a silver layer under a satin top and last longer than mirror chrome.
Are you looking for a chrome delete?
A chrome delete is the opposite of this page. It covers factory chrome trim, like window surrounds, grilles and badges, in black film. For that, start with our gloss black vinyl wrap, and read our guide on wrapping over chrome trim.
