Vinyl wrapping: Avoid adhesive dots | TeckWrap

When wrapping a hood or roof with vinyl wrap film, you will see peaks and curves on the section. They are generally not as hard to wrap as those deeply recessed areas. However, there can be a different kind of problem.

Sanding adhesive

As you pull the vehicle wrap across the hood or the roof, the material might hit those peaks and curves on the body lines. When you continue pulling, the adhesive will roll off and form underneath the film, which looks like sand. Thus, the finish will turn out to be low quality with lots of dots on the surface.

This will undoubtedly lead to dissatisfaction. And you might have to re-wrap the whole section. But it is not unpreventable. Here are two methods to avoid this situation:

Prep with aftercare product

Before wrapping, you can take an aftercare product like a sealant, which usually helps you keep the wrap slick. Put a little bit on a microfiber towel, and wipe it on all the body lines on the section. Make sure you leave a wide coverage on each line.

Once you finish wiping, use a heat gun to dry the surface before applying. The sealant will help lower the surface energy of the section, so the surface and the adhesive will not grab each other that much during installation.

Create your solution

For specific hoods and roofs that will bring a severe problem in terms of sanding, you can make a particular solution to tackle the issue. To do this, you will need:

  • Measuring cup
  • Syringe
  • Baby shampoo
  • Distilled water
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Sprayer

Mix them all into a sprayer using the measuring cup and syringe with the right proportion, following the sequence below:

  • Two parts distilled water
  • One part isopropyl alcohol
  • Half-part baby shampoo

When all liquid is filled into the sprayer, shake it to mix them well. Then, hold the sprayer at a high angle to spray the solution over the entire section, ensuring it covers the surface evenly.

As soon as it is done, in the same way, you should dry the section with your heat gun. Then, you are good to go.

By prepping with these solutions, you will no longer have to worry about sanding adhesive. Your finish will surely come up perfectly smooth with the right approach. Visit teckwrap.com for more wrap tips.
