Factory paint is thinner than most people think, and a single stone on the highway is enough to chip it. TeckWrap Clear PPF adds a durable layer of TPU over your paint that takes the hit instead. It blocks rock chips, scratches, bug acids, bird droppings, and UV fading while staying clear enough that you barely notice it’s there. Our films have a self-healing top layer, so light scratches and swirl marks fade with heat. They resist yellowing, repel water and dirt, and install with the standard wet method. Pick gloss for added depth, matte for a satin finish, or black film to change the look with the same protection underneath
Clear PPF Types Compared
All of these films are aliphatic TPU on a Lubrizol ESTANE® base with a self-healing top coat. The differences come down to the top coat, the thickness and the finish.
| PPF type | What you see | How it behaves on a car | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
Long-Warranty GlossS95, S85, S75+ | High-gloss clear film with very low haze. Aeon measures 90 GU gloss and 0.48% haze, so the paint underneath looks sharp and clean. | These carry our longest warranties, 8 to 10 years. A good fit for a car you plan to keep for a long time, or a full-body install where redoing the film later would cost the most. | Aeon (S95) Legacy (S85) Elite (S75+) |
Heavy-Duty GlossG85, G75, X85 | Clear gloss film with a thicker build, 330 to 339 µm in total. It looks the same on the car as the thinner films. | Made for trucks, high-mileage cars and gravel roads. The extra thickness needs firmer squeegee pressure and a bit more heat on tight curves. Premium and Titan carry 6 years, Essential 4. | Premium (G85) Titan (G75) Essential (X85) |
Everyday GlossX75, V75, V85 | Clear gloss film with a Lotus Effect top coat. Water beads up and rolls off, taking loose dirt with it. | Our best sellers for daily drivers and partial front kits, with a 4-year warranty. Access and Senti are rated to 110 °C (230 °F), and Senti stretches to about 450% on deep curves. | Core (X75) Access (V75) Senti (V85) |
Water-Sheeting GlossE75, E65 | Clear gloss film with a hydrophilic top coat. Water spreads into a thin sheet and runs off flat instead of beading. | Leaves fewer water spots, so it suits hard water areas and wet climates. Both carry 5 years. Crystal comes as a full 49 ft roll only. | Crystal (E75) Prime (E65) |
Wide-Format GlossW75 | Clear gloss film on a 6 ft (1.83 m) roll, the widest we make. | Big hoods, roofs and doors can be covered in one piece with fewer seams. The adhesive is the strongest in the range, about 2,300 g/inch. It carries a 5-year warranty. | Auro+ (W75) |
Matte ClearM75, X75M | Clear film with a satin-matte surface. On matte paint it keeps the matte look. On gloss paint it gives a matte finish. | M75 lets through about 59% of light, so colors look a little softer as well as flatter. Use matte-safe products only, since polish leaves a shiny patch that stays. M75 carries 5 years, Shade 4. | Matte (M75) Shade (X75M) |
Training RollE65 | A full 49 ft roll of Prime (E65) from aged stock. | For practice only. It has no warranty and is not for customer cars. | E65 Training Roll |
Clear PPF vs Color PPF vs Vinyl Wrap
Pick clear PPF if you are happy with your paint and want to keep it that way. For a new color with the same chip protection, look at color PPF. Vinyl costs less for a color change, but it will not stop stone chips.

Installing and Caring for Clear PPF
Clear PPF goes on wet. Slip solution lets you slide the film into position, and tack solution holds it once it is lined up. Clean and decontaminate each panel, and work indoors at 17 to 23 °C (63 to 73 °F) so no dust gets trapped under the film. Wrap edges where you can, heat cut edges to 95 °C (203 °F) and allow up to 7 days for full bond. Our bumper PPF guide shows the full process. The warranty requires a TeckWrap Authorized Installer, so find an installer near you for larger jobs.
Wait 7 days before the first wash, then hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and pat the car dry. Keep pressure washers below 2,000 psi and off the edges. Remove bird droppings, sap and bugs within 24 to 48 hours, and never polish the film, because that strips the self-healing top coat. Use matte-safe products on matte films.

Clear PPF FAQ
How much clear PPF do I need, and what does it cost?
A full 5 x 49 ft (1.52 x 15 m) roll covers 245 sq ft. That is more than enough for a full front, but a full car usually needs more, so check your vehicle in our material calculator first. A full roll costs around $799, which works out to about $3.26 per square foot, and shorter cut lengths of 9.8, 16 and 33 ft are available for smaller jobs. Full rolls ship free within the US with duties paid. If you have it installed, US shops typically charge $1,200 to $2,500 for a full front and $5,000 to $8,000 or more for a full car.
Does clear PPF stop stone chips?
Yes. TPU flexes when a stone hits it and spreads the force out, so the clear coat underneath stays intact. It has limits, though. A big, sharp rock at highway speed can still cut through, and a hard enough hit can dent the panel even when the paint survives. Our stone chip guide goes into where film works and where it does not.
Will clear PPF turn yellow?
No. Yellowing came from older PVC and aromatic films. Ours is aliphatic TPU on a Lubrizol ESTANE® base. SGS tested it for 500 hours under accelerated UV and measured a color shift of 0.2 ΔE, which is below what the eye can pick up. If a film does yellow, the warranty covers it.
Does the self-healing really work?
It works on light marks. Wash swirls and fine scratches in the top coat close up in the sun, with warm water or with gentle heat, and in testing they recovered fully at 70 °C (158 °F). Deeper cuts that go through the top coat stay. In that case only the damaged piece of film needs replacing, and the paint below is almost always fine.
Can people tell the car has PPF on it?
From a normal distance on a fully covered panel, no. The edges are what give it away. If the film stops partway across a panel, as on a partial hood, you can sometimes see a faint line where dirt collects. Wrapping the film around the panel edge hides it best.
Can I put clear PPF on matte paint?
Yes, but use a matte film. Gloss film will make matte paint look shiny. Matte (M75) and Shade (X75M) keep matte paint matte, and they can also give gloss paint a matte finish. M75 softens color a little, so try a sample on your own paint before ordering.
Hydrophobic or hydrophilic: which top coat should I choose?
Go by your water and climate. Most of our films have a Lotus Effect top coat that makes water bead up and roll off with dirt. Crystal (E75) and Prime (E65) are hydrophilic, so water spreads out in a sheet and runs off flat, leaving fewer spots in hard water and rainy weather. Aeon (S95) and Legacy (S85) are specified as non-hydrophobic and do not bead water.
How long does clear PPF last?
Each film has its own warranty, from 4 to 10 years. Aeon (S95) has 10, Legacy (S85) 9, Elite (S75+) 8, and Premium (G85) and Titan (G75) 6. Auro+ (W75), Crystal (E75), Prime (E65) and Matte (M75) have 5. Core (X75), Essential (X85), Shade (X75M), Access (V75) and Senti (V85) have 4. Film on the hood, roof and front bumper gets the most sun and road debris, so those panels wear first.
What does the warranty cover?
It covers manufacturing defects such as yellowing, cracking, bubbling, delamination, loss of clarity, staining from inside the film and adhesive failure on sound factory paint. Claims are not prorated. Rock chips, scratches and cuts in the film are not covered, since stopping those is what the film is for. Damage from brush car washes, contaminants left on the film, non-factory paint, too much heat and motorsport use is also excluded. Approved claims are settled with replacement film, and labor is not paid to vehicle owners.
Is a self-installed film covered by the warranty?
No. The warranty only applies when a TeckWrap Authorized Installer fits the film on sound factory paint and registers it within 30 days. Registration needs the product, LOT number, VIN, installer ID and installation date, and the installer does it through our PPF e-warranty page. Film you install yourself will still protect the paint, but it has no warranty.
Can I install clear PPF myself?
On small parts, yes. Mirror caps, door edges and a bumper lip are good places to start. You will need a slip solution of clean water with a few drops of baby shampoo, and a tack solution of water with roughly 20 to 30% isopropyl alcohol. Practice on our training roll before you touch the car. A full front or a full car is a job for an experienced installer, and the warranty requires one anyway. Find a wrap shop near you.
How do I wash a car with clear PPF?
Give the film 7 days after installation before washing. After that, hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and pat the car dry. Brush car washes void the warranty. With a pressure washer, stay below 2,000 psi and 60 °C (140 °F), use a nozzle of 40° or wider, keep at least 30 cm (12 in) away and never point it at an edge. Wipe off bird droppings, sap and bugs within 24 to 48 hours.
Should I get PPF or a ceramic coating?
They solve different problems. A ceramic coating is very thin. It adds gloss and makes washing easier, but it cannot stop a stone chip. PPF is there for impact. Plenty of owners run PPF on the front of the car and a coating on the rest. You can put a PPF-rated coating on top of the film if you like, though our top coat already resists stains and solvents on its own.
Will clear PPF damage my paint when I remove it?
Not on sound factory paint. Warm the panel, then pull the film back slowly at a low angle. Repainted or repaired panels can lift with the film. New paint has to cure completely before film goes on, because it releases gas for several weeks and that shows up as bubbles.
