It is more than a sponsorship but a shared journey in the pursuit of excellence.
Who is Nielsen Racing? A Legacy of Speed and Success
For those new to the ELMS paddock, Nielsen Racing is not just another name on the grid. They are a force forged in the heat of competition, a UK-based team with a rich history and an impressive track record. Founded in 2014 by the experienced David 'Sven' Thompson, whose own background spans Formula Palmer Audi and years managing Radical championship teams, Nielsen Racing was built on a foundation of deep motorsport expertise. Thompson's journey even included time as a lead engineer for Greaves Motorsport's LMP2 program, adding layers of valuable experience.
The team's story began modestly, with a single car and a truck, but success came quickly, winning the European Masters championship right out of the gate. This early triumph attracted talent and support, including driver Tony Wells, who remains with the team twelve years later. This loyalty speaks volumes about the environment Nielsen Racing cultivates. Over the years, the team expanded, claiming multiple titles and challenges, eventually leading to their partnership with Nielsen Chemicals in late 2014.
Since adopting the Nielsen Racing name and stepping up to LMP3 competition in 2017, the team has consistently punched above its weight. They conquered the UK's Henderson LMP3 Cup not once, but twice (2017 & 2018). Their prowess extends internationally, with championship titles in the Asian Le Mans Series (2020 & 2022) and the Michelin Le Mans Cup (2021).
Perhaps most impressively, Nielsen Racing has made significant strides in the ultra-competitive LMP2 category. They have secured podium finishes in the European Le Mans Series, achieved a remarkable second-place finish at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022 after only their second attempt, and even captured pole position in the LMP2 Pro-Am for the 2023 Le Mans race, being the first Pro-Am team in the Hyperpole session.
This is not just a team, but a group of dedicated specialists committed to meticulous race car preparation, damage repair, and chassis setup, always using the highest quality parts – a philosophy TeckWrap deeply resonates with in its own manufacturing process. They ensure their cars provide drivers the confidence to push the limits.
The 2025 Barcelona Challenge: A Grueling Season Opener
The 4 Hours of Barcelona marked the start of the 22nd ELMS season, featuring a massive, record-breaking grid of 44 cars across LMP2, LMP3, and the newly expanded LMGT3 classes. The competition was fiercer than ever, making every position hard-fought on the demanding 4.657km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Nielsen Racing arrived ready for battle, fielding two Oreca 07 Gibson prototypes, #24 (LMP2 Pro) and #27 (LMP2 Pro-Am), adorned in TeckWrap's vibrant, durable vinyl wraps. The race itself was a four-hour rollercoaster of strategy, skill, and endurance. Teams battled not only each other but also tyre degradation, traffic management on a crowded track, and the constant pressure of high-speed racing.

The #24 car, featuring the highly anticipated Albuquerque, qualified 21st but showed strong race pace. Through consistent driving and smart strategy, the team clawed their way through the competitive LMP2 field. After 130 laps of intense racing, they crossed the finish line 9th overall and 9th in the LMP2 class. It was a solid points haul to start the season in an incredibly tight field where mere seconds separated multiple cars.
The #27 Pro-Am entry also faced a tough fight. Starting further up the overall grid based on qualifying times (8th fastest overall in a mixed session), they navigated the complexities of the Pro-Am battle. The crew put in a valiant effort, completing 129 laps and ultimately securing 15th place overall and 6th in the LMP2 Pro-Am category. It was a respectable finish, gathering crucial championship points in their class.
While outright victory remained elusive in Barcelona, the performance of both Nielsen Racing cars showcased the team's resilience and professionalism. Finishing strongly in such a packed and competitive field is a significant achievement. It sets a solid foundation for the races ahead.
