Full print vinyl wrap: Full coverage gas lid | TeckWrap

When wrapping a gas lid with vinyl wrap film, installers tend to cut on the cover’s side and leave extra material to wrap around the inside of the tank. But if you are wrapping a light color vehicle with a full print film, for example, a white car, cutting in this way will expose the original paint color around the gas cap.

To avoid this problem, you do not necessarily have to prepare anything else. A small trick can help you achieve visually full coverage in this situation. All you have to do is change how you cut the vinyl wrap film.

Separate the gas lid into top and bottom sections

Instead of cutting on the gas cap’s side all the way around, use masking tape to separate the gas lid surface into a top and bottom sections, and treat the two parts differently.

You can still cut on the gas lid’s side for the bottom part, but change to cut on the fender’s side for the top section. This will leave you extra material to wrap around the gas lid at the top.

Take advantage of the common habit

The inside of the gas tank is usually deep. As people typically look at this area from above, and thus, without overwrapping, people will not tell much difference when looking at it. But also because of this, wrapping around the inside of the gas tank at the bottom is still necessary.

So, for the bottom section, you can still cut on the gas cap’s side and wrap around the inside with the extra material. The vinyl on the lid at the bottom will come a little short. But again, because people usually just look from above, it is hard to notice this.

This is a small trick to create a visually full wrap look without preparing anything else. It will not cost you more nor take you more time. And it is a rather handy way. Next time, when wrapping a light color vehicle, feel free to try it out. Learn more wrap tips at teckwrap.com
