As the need for paint protection film is rising, light wrapping with PPF or PVC is growing more popular. However, cleaning light is not the same as cleaning vehicle paint. Prepping improperly might lead to damage, which is fatal. Here are some tips for safe light preparation:

Avoid all-purpose cleaner

Cleaning is the first crucial step when wrapping a car with vinyl wrap film or light using PPF. There are many all-purpose cleaners in the market that clean a surface well, and some installers might also use this for light.

But those products usually have very high pH level and are harsh, and that is why they can clean so thoroughly. And this creates a risk of damaging the substrate, especially if the light is plastic. For a glass light, a harsh cleaner might etch the glass chemically and burn it.

To avoid this problem, soap and a light scrubber are much safer. Alternatively, there are bug removers that are pH balanced in the market that are particularly made for both plastic and glass light cleaning. These are well enough to clean up any dirt and bug on a light. More importantly, it is safe.

No ceramic coating

Putting ceramic coating on a light will cause trouble applying PPF, tint, or vinyl. The material will not stick properly with the coating on the surface, and you have to remove it if you want to apply anything on a light. Thus, make sure you degrease the surface well before the installation.
