According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), the top 5 best-selling car brands in Malaysia in the first half of 2023 were:
1.   Perodua: 144,690 units sold;
2.   Proton: 76,012 units sold;
3.   Toyota: 48,145 units sold;
4.   Honda: 33,727 units sold;
5.   Mitsubishi: 11,811 units sold

It’s worth noting that “national” brands such as Perodua and Proton are more popular among Malaysian buyers, with a market share of 66%.

Auto Shows in Malaysia
There are several auto shows and car shows that take place in Malaysia. Some of the biggest ones include:

   Malaysia International Motor Expo: It is one of the largest auto shows in Malaysia and showcases the latest car models and variants from Malaysian OEMs.
   Malaysia Autoshow: This is Malaysia’s largest car show and is held annually. The event features hundreds of the latest cars, EVs, motorbikes, and technology showcases.
   International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision Engineering (ICCARVE): Although not strictly an auto show, it is a significant event for professionals in the field of control, automation, robotics, and vision engineering.

According to an article by The Star, the outlook for Malaysia’s automotive industry remains positive, with the sector expected to register substantial total industry volume (TIV) numbers for 2022-2023, buoyed by robust deliveries and new bookings.

The Malaysian automotive industry is projected to grow with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.5% from 2020-2025 to hit a revenue of 6.8 billion US dollars by 2025.
