Wrap around back fender in one piece of vinyl wrap film
To wrap around the inside of back fenders of a hatchback is not something very tricky. But still, it is technical as the back fenders are curvy, and the vinyl wrap film tends to build up tension there.
Here are some tips for you to wrap around the inside of back fenders of a hatchback with vinyl wrap film:
Before you wrap around the inside with the vinyl wrap film, trim the panel down so you can handle it more easily. But remember to leave you enough extra material to work around.
Secure the vinyl wrap film on the outside of the back fender. Pick the extra material up, and make a relief cut at a 45-degree angle right near the middle corner of the back fender, which can take the tension there away.
Flip over the extra film, and open the back door of the hatchback. Then, pick them back up. Use heat to relax and soften the material as you hold the film up. Use your squeegee to set up a hinge on the edge.
Swing the material around to the inside bit by bit with your squeegee, flattening it out. Make relief cuts when it needs. Make 45-degree angle relief cuts at the bottom corner to take away the tension. Then, form the vinyl wrap film around.
Use your squeegee to glide the material along the inside. Make a cut near the middle corner, where the curve is. This is to separate the flat area on the inside from the middle corner. Then, sharpen your blade, and let the knife parallel to the inside.
Cut along the contour line there all the way from top (just below the curve) to bottom. Once you make the cut, remove the excess material, and seal the edge with your squeegee. The flat area on the inside is done by now.
As you go back to the middle corner, where the curve is, you will see a few wrinkles there because there is tension. You can apply heat to relax and soften the material. Then, create glass bit by bit by pulling the material evenly in a triangle shape. Use your squeegee to help when doing it.
When the curvy area is flat and done, you can cut away the excess film along the inside contour line with a sharp knife. By now, you will have a symmetrical wrap-around on the inside of the back fender.
More importantly, you would achieve a high-quality and long-lasting finish because you wrap properly and even out all the tension during the process. Learn more about vinyl wrapping at teckwrap.com
